Spring Weight Limits on Posted Roads

2016 Roads Not Posted with Weight Limits (Map)

On Friday, April 1, 2016, the Portage County Highway Department will be removing seasonal weight restrictions on all County Trunk Highways East and South of the Wisconsin River with the exception of CTH X and CTH DB. Postings for all County Trunk Highways West of the Wisconsin River along with CTH X and CTH DB will removed on April 18, 2016.

Additional information can be obtained by contacting the Highway Department office at (715) 345-5230.

Please note that these weight restrictions are for County Trunk Highways only. Any weight restrictions on State, City, Village, or Town roads are handled by each individual entity.

Seasonal Weight Restrictions

Seasonal weight restrictions will be enforced annually in the spring during the time that the frost is coming out of the ground. This is necessary to protect the pavement, which is susceptible to damage by heavy loads during this time of year. Permits may be obtained to haul perishable goods only during this time. Permit applications may be obtained by contacting the Highway Department office at (715) 345-5355. All permit requests will be reviewed by the Portage County Highway Committee to determine if they are allowable.
