For those who aren't familiar with the term, durable medical equipment is assistive equipment used in the home, primarily serving a medical purpose. Items such as quad-canes, walkers, wheelchairs, shower chairs, transfer benches, raised toilet seats, commodes, etc., are considered durable medical equipment. Some, but not all, of these items may be covered by Medicare or private insurance.
The ADRC Loan Closet is intended to meet the needs of:
- People who want to try out a specific type of equipment before purchasing it
- People who have a short-term need for such equipment
- People who need items not covered by Medicare
- People who lack private insurance coverage or sufficient funds to purchase needed equipment
Items are loaned at no charge to people in need.
Cash donations are welcome to fund equipment maintenance and cleaning. Donations of durable medical equipment are also accepted--if you're not sure whether an item you wish to donate is needed for this service, call us first.
Adaptive Aids Display
The Loan Closet has a display of aids you can see or check out to try at home--such as hand-grabbers, walker bags, large numeral telephone, etc. New items will be added as we receive them.
The Loan Closet is open by appointment between 1:00 and 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.
