Portage County Land Preservation Fund

The Portage County Land Preservation Fund was created by the County Board in 2003 to protect open space and outstanding natural features.

The Land Preservation Committee encourages municipal officials/conservation clubs to help identify the properties either through purchase of land or a conservation easement. Good candidates for preservation are properties with one or more of the following characteristics:

1. They have outstanding natural, cultural, historic and/or agricultural value.
2. They are targeted in your local Comprehensive Plan.
3. They are important in maintaining the quality of life of the people in your municipality.
4. They are apt to be developed if not protected soon.

If interested, please fill out the Application for Land Preservation Fund Consideration by January 1st or September 1st and return it to:
